Remains found on July 4 in Jacó were confirmed to belong to a missing German tourist, Karin Holzapfel, who disappeared on June 28, according to the Judicial Investigation Agency.
The family was notified on Friday, after preliminary autopsy results. Dental analysis confirmed that the body found was that of the 33-year-old woman. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
The news of the disappearance was filed formally as well as shared on social networks. The family offered a reward for information. They shared photos and videos of her. She was a surf lover who had spent months between Costa Rica and Panama.
The woman’s sister wrote, “With deep pain we want to inform you that yesterday, Friday, July 18, and after 19 days of searching, the German police have personally informed us that our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, has been found lifeless.” She thanked all those who searched for her. Another family statement said, “In our memories you will live forever. Rest in peace.”
