Upon realizing that they had been spotted by the Public Force, Ticos crossed the border to Panama, at an unmanned location, in the truck they were driving. It is believed they had first come from Panama into Costa Rica to bring liquor without paying taxes.
This occured on Saturday morning in La Unión de Limoncito, Coto Brus, Puntarenas. The authorities in Panama were alerted to the situation. They looked for the 1993 Toyota Dyna with Costa Rican Plates.
The vehicle was found abandoned outside a commercial store. The occupants had fled, leaving the windows down and keys in the ignition. In the truck, 600 boxes of different kinds of liquor were found. Among them were wine, beer, and rum.
The joint work between Costa Rican and Panamanian authorities led to confiscating the merchandise, which was placed under the orders of the Customs Authority. This is further proof of the joint effort to curb transnational organized crime.
