Two Costa Rican tourists, Gloria Loría Rivas and Jasmine Rivas Morales, have been unable to get home from Chile amidst the violent protests that have broken out in the country over the cost of living.
They had been enjoying their trip to Chile for two weeks until they were alerted to demonstrations. They were unable to get to any touristic sites and they were affected by tear gas. They were also scared to see military tankers and soldiers in the streets.
Because of all this, they decided to change their flight to come home early. They were unable to get to the airport, however, because the Government enforced a strict curfew meaning they couldn’t leave their apartment.
They reached out to the embassy and the Foreign Ministry and were advised to change the trip again to Monday afternoon and leave very early in the morning to ensure they could get to the airport on time.
