Am I the only one that thinks whatever cruel acts you perform on an animal should be done to you?
A resident of Pococí is being brought to trial for animal cruelty after he tied his dog to a motorized bike and draged him 150 meters causing serious skin injuries at about 9 am on Tuesday.
Another resident of Cariari de Pococí observed the abuse and alerted Public Force officers, according to the Deputy Prosecutor of Pococí. The police arrested the suspect and he will be tried in court. The crime is punishable by six months to three years in prison.
The bike was confiscated. The dog was transferred to the National Animal Health Service, Senasa, for veterinary care and to know his health status. He had severe skin lesions.
The Criminal Code and the Animal Welfare Law emphasize the responsibilities of pet owners to guarantee basic living conditions and proper safety, hygiene, public health and veterinary practices to their pets. There are penalties of up to three years in prison and fines of up to ¢707,000 for the mistreatment of animals.
