Costa Rica News – MEP has paid 900 educators a salary although they have passed away. This is due to a system error.
900 deceased workers somehow were on the payroll. The Ministry turned over ¢700 million to them.
This is only part of the ¢45,000 million in salaries paid in error over the last 15 years. A total of 35,000 employees owe the institution, according to the head of Human Resources of the MEP.
One of the situations was that an educator received a ¢7 million that did not correspond to him. In just one year, in fact, 10,700 employees received money wrongly. Part of the problem is with the registry of personnel movements.
To collect payments issued wrongfully, the MEP must contact the individual educators one by one and set an appointment. The collection from the deceased becomes a legal issue. The Collections Unit and Unit of Management of Procedures are studying how to go about it.
