The Ministry of Health is investigating the death of a man who drank guaro altered with methanol. Four others used emergency services in recent months with similar intoxications.
The cases were all in the metropolitan area. It seems that someone is selling an imitation of Guaro Montano, as the company has passed inspections. The product being produced in its factories is not the same as the one causing damage.
An alert was issued and the public is urged for precaution to not to buy or consume Guaro Montano as it is not yet possible to distinguish between the original product and the forged one.
Drinking the forged product can lead to drunkenness, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, lack of control of the body, and even death. It is made with water that is not potable or filtered and with methanol, a chemical agent not meant for consumption.
