The death of María del Carmen was felt throughout the country. After her mother had to face the idea of her daughter taking her own life she then had to hear that what actually happened was murder.
The suspect is the woman’s husband, who got angry she wanted a divorce. The night of her death, it was he who called the police. He said he was out and came home to find her. The autopsy revealed it was homicide.
It was later found out that he was home at the time of her death. He is now in six months preventive detention while the investigation continues.
Friends and family mourn the loss and wonder how such an independant, educated, happy woman ended up in a cycle of domestic violence. Those closest to her knew that he was controlling and checked her phone, one of the reasons she filed for divorce just days before her death.
