Costa Rica Entertainment – Wednesday, the Ministry of Culture and Youth awarded the 2017 Aquileo J. Echeverría awards which named five titles from Costa Rican writers.
Most of them can be found in Costa Rican bookstores so you can enjoy the wonderful works. The winning books were in the categories of novel, short story, poetry and essay.
Byron Salas, at just 23 years of age, published Mercurio en primavera. It took an award because the jury felt it delved “into a theme of enormous social significance,” the inequality of gender and taboos of patriarchy and religiosity in our country. This novel can be purchased at Librería Andante, Duluoz, and Buhólica.
Guillermo Barquero, one of the most recognized authors in the country, won for Anatomía comparada, a story which transports us to another world. You can get the book by contacting germinalcr@gmail.com.
Carlos Fonseca took home a prize with his elegant collection of essays “La lucidez del miope,” which can also be purchased at germinalcr@gmail.com. It’s interesting in that it is literature talking about literature.
Two poets, Alfredo Trejos and José María Zonta, took the prize. El libro de la Dinastía de Bambú was published in Mexico and is not available digitally or in Costa Rica. Prusia can be obtained in the store Eñe.
