Costa Rica News – Tourism has slowed down in Costa Rica, with a 3% drop in American visitors between January and August this year over the same period last year.
The overall entrance of tourists in the first eight months of this year grew by 1.3% and the drop was specifically related to those from the U.S.
The Daniel Oduber airport was the most affected with the drop in arrival of tourists. The problem, however, is thought to be a short-term, temporary behavior of the U.S. market. This typically follows a change in the Government.
Another possible factor, however, is that airlines have reduced the size of planes to give more room to travelers. This results in fewer available seats to the country from the United States.
We can also consider that many Americans are choosing to go to Mexico, following the recently signed open skies agreement.
U.S. tourists to Mexico grew by 12% in the first half of 2017.
