Costa Rica News – The “La Niña” phenomenon starting to be present in Costa Rica.
This will likely cause increased rainfall in both the central and south Pacific as well as a dryness in the southern Caribbean.
This same phenomenon is responsible for the terrible Storm Nate. It’s a climactic problem expected to last almost six months, bringing us to March or April of next year, according the the forecast of the National Meteorological Institute.
Another change we can expect with La Niña is an extension of the rainy season, specifically a one to two week delay in the end of the rainy season with air temperatures within normal ranges.
Winds will be less than normal.
La Niña is a climatic and oceanic phenomenon part of the natural cycle of El Niño-Southern Oscillation, a global cycle that has two extremes, a warm phase, known as El Niño and a cold one, known as La Niña.
