Costa Rica’s COVID Isolation Centers

The Minister of Health, Daniel Salas, reached out to the residents of the country, and especially the northern zone, asking them to accept the isolation centers rather than protest against them. “Communities have to help us help them,” he said.

As of yesterday, there are 50 new cases of covid-19, bringing the total in Costa Rica to 1,662, in 74 cantons. 907 of the cases are still active. Conglomerates were detected in San Carlos and Guanacaste.

To contain the spread of the virus, patients without conditions to self quarantine at home must be treated in isolation centers. It is understandable that no one wants their community to house the covid patients but it is necessary to avoid community transmission.

One of the isolation centers was installed in a hotel in Santa Rosa de Pocosol. 17 Nicaraguan citizens are located there. While this sparked outrage, additional such centers are to come so that outbreaks don’t get out of control. There is another isolation center in La Carpio, in La Uruca.

The CCSS guarantees that all patients with covid symptoms, even the uninsured, will be treated as a measure to protect public health.
