More on Costa Ricas Potential Electric Train

The electric train is going to be used by an estimated 200,000 people daily. The five lines cover 84 kilometers of the Greater Metropolitan Area. They will be interconnected so as to allow for transfers we don’t have at the moment. There will be 46 stations. At least 10 will connect with bus routes.

There will be a total of 72 light trains moving along the lines and 6 in reserve. Each can carry 600 passengers. To increase fluidity and speed, 72 overpasses will be built. The trains can go 35 to 80 kilometers per hour.

Lines 1, 2, and 3 will run at 5 minute intervals during peak hours and every 15 minutes during regular hours. Lines 4 and 5 will run every 10 minutes during peak hours every 30 minutes during regular hours. The service will run from 5am to 11pm.

The State will pay 35.5% of the total cost. The total is $1,550 million. Congress is considering a $550 million loan approved by Central American Bank for Economic Integration for the project.
