30 Years in Prison; Costa Rican Woman Beats Her Stepdaughter to Death

Costa Rica News – A woman has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for beating her stepdaughter, who died from the injuries.

The autopsy of the 3-year old showed multiple serious injuries.

The sentence was given in the Courts of Justice of San Carlos, following a three day debate and the presentation of five witnesses.

After hearing the sentence, she was transferred to the cell by agents of the Judicial Investigation Agency.

The events occurred on June 19, 2015 in Aguas Zarcas. The presence of the Red Cross rescuers was requested. They arrived to find the dead child. They took the body outside until an ambulance arrived.

At the end of the funeral, three days later, the woman was arrested from outside the cemetery. The judges, at that time, imposed 6 months of preventative detention.
