Costa Rica Doctors Remove 75 Pound Tumor

Costa Rica News – Specialists from the Hospital Mexico have extirpated the largest tumor extirpated in Mesoamerica.

It was found in the abdomen of a 57-year-old. The giant tumor weighed 34 kilos. The dimensions of the tumor were 40 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm with a circumference of 1.67 m.

The lady, Sonia Lopez, had the benign tumor in her abdomen for the past eight years. Personal situations kept her from having it removed until now. Although not cancerous it had to be removed at this time because it was threatening her health, pressing on various organs.

The hospital treats three to four giant tumors a year but never one so large. The Guinness Record book records the largest as weighing 30 kilograms.

The surgery was performed on Monday with five surgeons and two anesthesiologists. The procedure lasted two and a half hours. They needed to carefully detach it from the blood vessels and then return the organs to where they should be since the tumor had pushed them out of place.

Lopez reports feeling so much different after the surgery. Before she felt very tired and very bad but already feels the difference. She says it’s like being born again.
