Fiestas de Palmares Changing This Year in Costa Rica

Palmares 2020 will be different than the last few years. Over its 34 year history it turned into less of a family event. The organizers promised to get it back to a family friendly ambiance.

One of the main changes is that there will no longer be the Festival Ranchero or any international outdoor concerts, as these events led to problematic behavior that made Palmares feel unsafe for families.

This year, the Fiestas de Palmares will be seen more as a family and cultural event. There will be 17 rides and various gastronomical areas. 400,000 people are expected to attend. Kids will be able to enjoy rides at midnight in a healthy and safe environment.

Another change is that where large concerts used to be held there will be a parking lot. This way, cars can be within sight of the fairgrounds.

There will still be outdoor music to satisfy those who enjoy that part of the festival. There will be national artists on stage every day as well as other performances for families.

There will also be an increased sports agenda. In addition to cycling and athletics events, the Summer Games will debut this year, with CrossFit, Weightlifting and Strongman.
