Camila Franceschi Wins Costa Rica Triathalon

A triathlete, Camila Franceschi climbed the podium to her first gold medal in the National Games. This was her third time participating and second time getting a medal at the event.

It was not easy for her. She started training at age 16 and did a whole year before she got a bike. Adding in cycling to swimming and running was difficult for her. She competes in the sub 23 category that consists of 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling, and 5 kilometers of running.

The 21-year-old also faced the stress of studying and training at once. She almost left her medical studies to train but then managed to find a way to take on both challenges. She wakes up at 4:20 am every day and trains before classes.

It paid off at this year’s event in which she got a time of 1:12:27. She runs for her hometown in the central canton of Cartago. She said she was very proud to represent the province.
