Costa Rica Tourism Up 4% For 2019

Costa Rica saw an increase of 4.1% in visitors to the country from 2018-2019. Globally, tourism is up by 4%, so Costa Rica is a bit above the average. Visitors stay an average of 12.6 nights in Costa Rica. This is up one night from 2018 to 2019.

This information, from the barometer of the World Tourism Organization, was released on Wednesday during the signing of a decree to create the National Tourism Competitiveness Council.

Arrivals by air increased by 4.5% between 2018 and 2019. This is the most important way of arrival into the country and thus is the basis for promotion planning to attract tourism.

Costa Rica is also better in the perception of the quality of the destination, which now scored an 80.7 whereas in 2018 it scored 2.9% lower. Costa Rica is expecting even more competitiveness in 2020, due to strengthening public-private coordination and enhancing advantages the country has.
