Costa Rica Doctor Located in New York; The Coronavirus Epicenter

A Costa Rican doctor is working in the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, in Elmhurst, NY. Everyday she is scared to see the progression of her patients and even more scared to contract the virus and bring it home where she has a four-year-old son.

Doctor Grace Hidalgo reports that she sees three trucks waiting for corpses as she enters her place of work. “You can’t not feel,” she says. She works in a city that has seen 4,000 deaths from covid-19.

She works in the neonatal intensive care and maternity unit. She sees moms come in to give birth and they have or are suspected to have the virus. It’s gotten to the point where they have to assume everyone has it. She goes into C-sections and deliveries with a double mask and a suit and eye protector.

She has taken into account the psychological aspects of hearing that your child has the virus. She had to tell a mother that her 4-day-old son tested positive. The boy recovered, but not all are so lucky.

When she arrives home, her son wants to hug her but must wait. She showers in a bathroom that only she uses and washes her clothes at once.
