Corredores, an indigenous town in Bajo Los Indios in Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific, has decided to close its borders. During Easter Week, a very popular travel week, not even locals who were studying or working in other areas will be allowed in. This has been communicated to them through family members.
The indigenous association of the area explained that the locals are especially concerned about the new coronavirus because the simple way they live puts them at risk. Additionally, there are many elders in their community and many with chronic health conditions that put them at even greater risk.
They made clear that emergency personnel and police will be allowed in if necessary. Additionally, cargo vehicles that bring them food will be allowed.
As of yesterday, there have been 416 infected by covid-19. 2 have died, 11 have recovered. 13 are in intensive care.
