Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (Recope) Increasing Overhead

Costa Rica News – Expect these increases to be reflected in the already high cost of gas in Costa Rica.

The collective Labor agreement of the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (that does no refining) (Recope) will increase to ¢24,846 this year, from ¢23,624 million in 2017, if approved by the Office of the Comptroller of the Republic.

This 5% jump is explained by a new salary bonus as well as higher payments for overtime and vacations. These benefits are for 1,740 employees. The money comes from the pocket of hydrocarbon users.

Under the proposed budget for the public company, there is a new bonus for non-professional employees, who will receive between 3% and 5% more than the worker’s base salary.

To finance both these changes and other operating expenses, Recope has requested that the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) increase fuel prices by ¢5.89 per liter of super gasoline, ¢5.45 a liter of regular gasoline and ¢4.80 diesel.
