Costa Rica News – I guess the “manana” excuse does not work for 3 years in Costa Rica, there is a limit.
The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) has terminated a contract with Hidrotárcoles for non-compliance with a hydroelectric plant project in San Pablo de Turrubares that should have started operating in August of 2015.
The decision was officially made on January 15th, through the official administrative procedure 5201-10-2018, the entity said Monday. The contract was resolved due to a breach of the maximum term contractually granted to the contractor to start the commercial operation of the plant.
In fact, administrative and judicial procedures started back in 2015. The contract with ICE had been worth $107 million. The Institute intended to buy from Hidrotárcoles S. A. energy blocks of up to 50 megawatts.
In addition to terminating the contract, ICE issued a sanction against Hidrotárcoles SA because the contractor failed to comply with the contract without sufficient reason. Meanwhile, Hidrotárcoles insists that ICE changed the date, affecting negatively the plant and 700 workers.
