Costa Rica Shipping – Correos de Costa Rica has enabled a system of smart lockers meant to reduce the delivery of purchases made online.
The network started with 23 points in the Greater Metropolitan Area and by the end of the year there will be 83.
The boxes are known as “Apartado Postal Inteligente.” They are found in stores and supermarkets. People conveniently just enter a security code to receive their package from the self serve kiosk.
Each box has a cost of ¢1 million, including the construction of the intelligent locker and the installation. Correos de Costa Rica has invested ¢23 million in the first phase of this project.
Clients can still opt to pick up their packages at a Correos location for free but the smart locker system is cheaper than home delivery. It costs just ¢1,000. It is also more convenient than most Correos locations because of extended hours, parking facilities and security.
