The second wave of covid-19 cases hit Costa Rica hard, forcing the Government to establish stricter regulations in order to create what is being referred to as an “epidemiological fence” to contain infections in the Greater Metropolitan Area.
In the GAM and other cantons defined under an orange alert, there have been changes to vehicle restrictions and business operations. The newest measures will remain in effect until July 19.
In all districts under an orange alert, there is now a 24-hour vehicle restriction on weekdays. That means that vehicles can only go out to access supermarkets, pharmacies, and supermarkets. Additionally, each day only certain license plates can be out at all, and again only to authorized establishments.The restriction hours on weekends are 5am to 5pm.
The only businesses allowed to open in areas under orange alert are supermarkets, suppliers, and mini-supermarkets that sell food, beverages, groceries, and hygiene supplies, bakeries, butchers, pharmacies, medical centers, home service (exclusively for food, pharmacy, veterinary, hardware, and locksmith), agricultural, veterinary and hygiene suppliers, funeral homes, child care centers, and centers for those in vulnerable conditions.
