Luany Salazar Murder & The Call to the Police

Luany Salazar’s Mother called 9-1-1 to report her daughter missing on June 9, according to a family lawyer. The operator told her to wait 24 to 48 hours before making the complaint. This is why it wasn’t until June 11th that the complaint was filed with the OIJ.

The 23-year-old girl spoke to her family on June 9, in the afternoon. She went out with a friend. Together they smoked a cigarette and chatted at a neighbor’s house. Someone known as “Hippie” arrived. Salazar and Hippie left together and this was the last time she was seen alive.

It is believed they went to the man’s house where he killed her by stabbing her seven times. Luany’s brother went to Hippie’s house and found dirt removed in the backyard. He dug around and found his sister’s remains.

The family as well as social activist groups blame the authorities for not taking the case seriously. A spokesperson for the 9-1-1 system claims that a review of recordings was made and none of the operators indicated to any caller that they should wait to generate a complaint. The call from the girl’s mother came in on July 12, at 10:54 am, and the case was immediately referred to the OIJ which then carried out at least 15 proceedings to find the girl.
