Airbnb resists the regulations imposed by a new law meant to regulate non-traditional lodging. The new law was approved by deputies on Thursday, September 5, in the second debate.
Records would have to be made with the National Tourism Institute, patents developed and paid for, the value added tax charged, and electronic invoices delivered. This changes a lot for Airbnb hosts.
The main idea behind the initiative is to level the playing field for traditional hotels and families offering room and home rentals on various platforms such as Airbnb who currently don’t pay taxes.
Airbnb argues that they have not been heard in the debate and that putting these new regulations on hosts will force many to stop renting out their properties meaning they will lose needed income for their families and the towns’ restaurants and shops will lose tourist clients.
