Haunted Albanian Alps

They say that the mountains of Albania are a cursed place. My father and my step-mother when visiting Greece and Italy, did a side trip to the Albanian Alps. Even though they did not witness anything paranormal, many other people have witnessed high strangeness on these mountain. Officially called Prokletije or the Albanian Alps, most people refer to them by a more fitting name: The Accursed Mountains. This is what one blogger says: “Many years ago, three brothers went out hunting. On their trip, they encountered a beautiful fairy. Each brother wanted to marry her, so they began to fight, growing more and more violent until each of them died. When the brothers failed to return home, their mother went out searching and found their slain bodies. There, the distraught fairy told her what happened. In her grief and anger, the mother cursed the fairy and the mountains themselves for killing her sons and the Accursed Mountains have been a place of mystery ever since.”

And this is what one Internet historian has to say about the Accursed Mountains: “Albania’s more recent history also lends itself to the name. From 1946 to 1992 the country was ruled by a brutal communist regime that closed the borders to prevent escape. Here in the Accursed Mountains, troops patrolled the bloody borders with Montenegro and Kosovo, burying landmines, building bunkers, and separating Albania from the rest of the world.” And according to one hiker: “I visited Theth National Park and it is a hiker’s paradise. The rugged peaks rose high above me as I hiked to waterfalls and swimming holes, along riversides and up mountains during my three-day stay. Albanian hospitality is some of the warmest in the world and I was welcomed into a guest house and ate home-cooked food for every meal. Yes, these mountains may be cursed, but they’re still one of the most beautiful places in Europe. For travelers looking for somewhere with a mysterious and haunting history, the Accursed Mountains in Albania shouldn’t be missed.” Another hiker says: “I hiked in parts of the Albania Alps and came across an old woman and an old man with a cane walking slowly on a trail. As I approached them to see if they were okay, they just vanished. I know this mountain is haunted by many ghosts, on that day I witnessed two ghosts. I will never forget this experience.”

Let’s see what other kind of paranormal activity we have at the Albanian Alps. Here is a UFO Report:

UFO SIGHTING
There was a MIG jetfighter crash on Tomorri Mountain. The story goes that an MIG jetfighter crashed in Skrapari on Tomorri Mountain. Authorities in Albania first believed it was shot down by some secret NATO weaponry directed from Greece. But intelligence officers investigating the crashed aircraft have ascertained that there was no violation of the Republic’s air border that day. According to witnesses on the ground, the pilot was following an unknown flying object. In the seconds before the aircraft was lost, the pilot had communicated with the control tower of Kuçova Military Airport. The pilot was unclear what kind of object he was observing. After taking orders to open fire, the control tower lost communication with the aircraft. The aircraft was later found on Tomorri Mountain. When analyzing the causes of the plane crash, it turned out that the cabin was cut off from the rest of the plane. The cut was clean like if a very sharp knife had been used. Special Note: There have been many sightings of UFOs seen near and around the Albanian Alps. An Albanian citizen named Petrit Dibra says that on July 26, 1994 around 1400 Hours, he witnessed a triangle shaped UFO approach one of the peaks in the Albanian Alps and seemed to vanish inside the mountain. Petrit says that the mountain seemed to just swallow up the triangle shaped flying vehicle. The UFO was the size of 2 football fields. Petrit also noticed during his sighting of the UFO, it was deathly quiet, there was no sound whatsoever coming from the mountain. When the UFO was gone, he then heard sounds of nature.

MARJETA THE MOUNTAIN NYMPH
Flamur an Albanian citizen says that his mother in 1943 came in contact with a mountain nymph named Marjeta. Flamur remembers his mother telling him that she was visiting an uncle that lived near the Albanian Alps and went out to play. While playing by herself she heard a very soft female voice that told her to “come here, I want to play with you.” Flamur then says his mother saw peeking behind a tree a slender lady with plant leaves covering portions of her body. She was peeking from behind a tree. Flamur’s mother remembered hearing stories about nymphs and how certain mountain nymphs lived on the Albania Alps. The mountain nymph gave Flamur’s mother a pearl and said her name was Marjeta. Marjeta the Mountain Nymph told Flamur’s mother that one day the pearl would save her. Flamur’s mother went through some terrible times with her husband and was contemplating suicide. Flamur’s mother took the pearl in her hand and started praying. When Flamur’s mother did this, she felt a sudden rush of positive rejuvenating energy go through her body and she no longer felt suicidal. Three weeks later her abusive husband died of a stroke. After the death of Flamur’s mother’s husband, she was courted a year later by another man. They had a whirlwind romance, got married and life was blissful for Flamur’s mother. Flamur’s mother died in her sleep in 2017.

So with Flamur’s story about the mountain nymph and the story about the UFO, there seems to be what I consider high strangeness on this mountain. An interesting note is that nymphs have been associated with UFOs. I also wonder if there is a UFO base inside of the mountain and that is why the triangle shaped UFO seemed to have disappeared into the mountain?
