Costa Rica News – A Costa Rican, Andrés Mora, has a very cool job. He works on the next generation of robots that will assist astronauts in the International Space Station.
He’s part of the Astrobee team in the United States.
The cube-like robot, Astrobee, will perform routine tasks in space. In the coming months, NASA will fly the 30x30x30 robot to the ISS, giving them additional eyes and ears in the station.
This new generation robot can perform research and maintenance tasks without being supervised by the astronauts. It can monitor environmental conditions, such as sound levels. It can do tasks that are cumbersome and time consuming so that they don’t have to be done manually.
Mora contributes support in both hardware and software as well as ideas about research of interest since he studied in the field of research. He brings tons of experience including work with the Japanese space agency. He encourages young Costa Ricans to keep studying and never stop being curious.
