Costa Rica News – The lakes that had formed in craters of the Turrialba volcano have completely disappeared.
It’s not a mystery, though, as the same thing happened at the Poas Volcano.
The disappearance of the lakes doesn’t have much to do with the volcanos themselves, rather it is a phenomenon attributed to the increase in temperature and decrease in rainfall we have been experiencing this season.
The lakes formed in two craters in Turrialba at the beginning of the year. Then the summer came, bringing a decrease in rain. This is similar to the story of the Poas Volcano lagoon last year, according to the National Seismological Network.
There have been other changes at Turrialba, unrelated to the lakes. It has been very active, with outflow of sulfur gases and water vapor, but without ash eruption. The degassing increased the humidity in the environment. There has also been a very strong incandescence during the nights.
