When Do you Need To Tip on a Costa Rica Vacation?

Costa Rica Travel – You’ve heard it all from that you don’t ever need to tip in Costa Rica to the opposite point of view, that people’s lives and families depend on tips. Here’s the truth.

Tipping is not needed but a small tip will likely mean little to you but a world of difference to a local so why not.

Restaurants typically add a 10 percent gratuity to your bill before giving it to you. There’s also a 13 percent tax. Costa Ricans don’t usually add an additional tip but tourists usually do.

A $2 tip for someone carrying your bags would be appropriate as would about $2 per day for the maid in your hotel room. You could opt to tip a bit more, and on the first day, to ensure extra great service for the remainder of your stay.

When it comes to tour guides and bus drivers, a tip of $5 to $15 is typical, depending on the size of your group. Anyone who receives a tip will be grateful for the generosity.
