Costa Rica News – The first Costa Rican satellite has launched and is in space.
The big news was overshadowed by the election but now people are coming to realize what a big event it really is for our nation.
The Central American Association of Aeronautics and Space and the Technological Institute of Costa Rica developed the satellite. It launched on Monday, April 2nd. The Falcon 9 rocket that took the satellite to the ISS had a launch window that opened at 2:30 pm yesterday. Videos show the exact moment, from Cape Canaveral in the United States.
Adolfo Chaves, coordinator of the Space Systems Laboratory of the ITCR School of Electronics, explained that the weather was perfect for the launch.
It went to the International Space Station where it will be put into orbit with the help of the Kibo module from the Japanese Space Exploration Agency.
President elect, Carlos Alvarado, expressed great emotion for the mission and wished for its success.
