Overpasses in Costa Rica – Good Idea or More Traffic?

MOPT has awarded contracts for the construction of overpasses in Tarras and La Lima de Cartago. The H. Solís-Estrella consortium is the winner. It will begin the work in the second half of next year as long as there are no appeals.

The projects have already been designed and financed. The Inter-American Development Bank loaned $58 million for the works.

The overpass in Tarras will have three lanes in each direction and the one in La Lima will have two lanes each way.

Related improvements include bike paths, bus bays, and sidewalks along the 2.8 kilometers that connect Tarras and La Lima.

The work is important to all who travel between San José and Cartago or the south of the country. 40,000 vehicles pass through this sector per day.

The Minister of Public Works and Transportation estimates that the work will be completed 28 months after the start date.
