Want to Be a Traffic Cop in Costa Rica? Here is How

There are 220 positions open for transit police. Those interested in applying should do so via the Employment Management Recruitment System on www.mopt.go.cr from 8 am Monday, December 9 to 3 pm on Friday, December 13. The list created in 2015 has been canceled so those who were on it should reapply.

By the end of January, the first candidates will be contacted. They will then go for physical and psychological tests and an interview before being put on the list of eligible candidates.

The form is very user-friendly. It’s important to fill out the information accurately as all details will be verified. The email provided should be double-checked as that is the way candidates will be contacted.

Applicants must be Costa Rican by birth and have completed 9th grade. Basic English and knowledge of automotive mechanics are not essential but are appreciated. Those chosen to continue will take the Basic Police Course and become officers in the second half of 2020 at which point they could enter service.
