The Ministry of Finance closed the Wyndham San José Herradura hotel for five days over alleged tax debts to the State. The hotel owner, Bonanza, disregarded the closure and removed the seals that were placed.
According to Bonanza, the company obtained a precautionary measure of judicial order to avoid the closure, however, the Ministry of Finance believes that was for another case and the closure should have been respected.
Seals that were placed to prohibit the use of the kitchen, restaurant, and common areas were broken and the rooms were used, going against what the Treasury ordered. Removing or breaking these seals is a crime.
The Ministry of Finance will take the matter before the Courts of Justice. In the meantime, the official closing tapes were placed again at the hotel facilities. Hotel Bonanza is said to owe ₡1,847 million in taxes.
