How Much Tourism Will Costa Rica Lose to the Coronavirus?

As the COVID-19 is now widespread and many countries can restrict movement without notice, the United States took an unprecedented action: urging citizens to avoid all travel abroad so as not to be trapped in another country.

Additionally, President Trump has prohibited flights from most of Europe to the United States, with the exception of the U.K.

In 2019, 1,334,777 Americans travelled to Costa Rica. What effect will the COVID-19 have on the 2020 figure? Another issue will be the potential interruption of imports and exports.

Recommendations against travel to Italy and South Korea were already issued. Now the recommendation is to cancel all plans to travel anywhere abroad. American travel warnings declared the whole world in a level 3 out of 4 travel alert. China was placed at level 4, the maximum. As of January, U.S. citizens have been asked not to go there.
