US Visas in Costa Rica on Hold for Coronavirus

Those seeking visas to enter the U.S. may have to wait until after the covid-19 emergency, unless there is an emergency reason for needing the visa.

As of March 18 and until further notice, the diplomatic mission, the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica is taking extra precautions by reducing appointments.

The only cases that will be considered for an urgent visa to travel to the United States are death of a relative, urgent business trip, exchange students, and victims of stolen visas or passports. The request for an emergency visa can be processed online.

Those who applied for a normal visa will likely receive an appointment cancellation email. They will not get a call to cancel appointments. To check the status of your appointment, call 4000-1976.

The U.S. Embassy also reported that U.S. citizens in Costa Rica may return home to the United States where they will have to be quarantined in their homes for 14 days.
